While the WorldFlight event is a fun way to raise money, all the participants take the advantage to experience levels of realism we usually dream about when sitting infront of the computer at home. Thanks to the donated charts and software, a full dispatch office is run throughout the event to provide all the required information to the pilots and the tools they need to plan their loads and navigate the route.
Some information and tools to assist pilots and ATC acompanying the simulators can be found below.
General
Due to the nature of WorldFlight, pilots should allow for lengthy delays and consider the following:
- It is suggested that crew carry at minimum 60 minutes holding fuel on top of normal reserve fuel amounts.
- Plan via WorldFlight preferred routes for each leg.
- Prior to flying, check for the latest WorldFlight NOTAMs
- Check ATIS for special frequency and non-standard Operational Information.
- Ensure familiarity with charts, particularly the AD chart & taxiway designators.
- Be familiar with read-back requirements and execute instructions quickly and accurately.
- Denote datalink capability (via Hoppies ACARS) with DAT/SV (or similar) in flight plan remarks.
- Due to media and charity commitments the Simulators may 'Queue jump' from time to time.
- Ensure you are using accurate winds aloft - use the 'Real World Weather every 15 mins option' in FS, or alternative third party WX application.
- Allow an extra tolerance in addition to the yellow line when holding short of runways - don't approach the holding point until cleared for T/O or line-up. This minimises unnecessary go-arounds and problems caused by scenery alignment issues and sim lag.
WorldFlight NOTAMs
- WorldFlight specific NOTAMs can be accessed at WFNOTAMs.
Route Files
- A spreadsheety summary of all legs including routes can be Downloaded From Here.
- Prepared route files for all major Flight Sim packages are available from the 'Downloads' page.
